			Sarah Sudhoff
(born Honolulu, Hawaii, 1977) is an internationally and nationally
exhibited photographer. Sudhoff’s projects explore personal
experiences while also highlighting uncomfortable subjects. She is
inherently interested in making visible what is invisible and
challenging the viewer to confront the image before them. Birth
Marks is an on-going series featuring individuals afflicted by
			Neurofibromatosis–the most common genetic disorder.
Neurofibromatosis causes tumors to grow throughout the body and can
present itself in varying degrees. Each NF case is in some ways as
unique as the person who has it. These large-scale color photographs
invite viewers to look closely at four individuals with NF 1. The
straight forward compositions are reminiscent of 19th century
medical photography. Each image clearly depicts the manifestations
of the illness, pictured from both the front and back of the body.

of Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999. She
spent several years working as a photo editor for Time Magazine and
freelance photographer for the Daily News and Brooklyn Eagle before
returning to earn her Masters. Upon returning to Texas in 2007
Sudhoff took a three month position as the photo editor of Texas
Monthly Magazine in Austin, Texas followed by a nine month stint as
a photography professor at Stephen F. Austin State University in
Nacogdoches, Texas. In 2008 Sudhoff helped form the Austin Center
for Photography–a non-profit photo space dedicated to cultivating a
community in Austin for photographers, educators and photo
enthusiasts. Also in 2008 Sudhoff was named by Photolucida as one of
the top 50 photographers in America. In 2010 she became the first
artist-in-residence at the Kinsey Institute for research in Sex,
Gender and Reproduction, Bloomington, Indiana. Sudhoff is now on
