Christa Mares’s current body
of work in ceramics grapples with perceptions of domestic
ideals and identity. She addresses the function within dysfunction
through the use of autobiographical content.
Christa Mares, born and raised
in Southern California until the age of thirteen, moved to
Vancouver, Washington with her family. While living in Washington,
she was classically trained in ballet through the Royal Academy of
Dance. Christa studied dance through various schools and programs
such as the Cornish College of Art, American Academy of Ballet and
Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance. She then moved back to
Orange County to attend California State University, Fullerton as a
dance major. She later changed her emphasis and obtained her B.F.A.
in ceramics and sculpture. Christa now attends University of Texas
at Austin where she is currently working towards an M.F.A. in
ceramics.
