Emerging artist, Jonathan Cowan has his first solo show in cactus bra SPACE. Cowan in video, faces himself through a pane of glass wearing a black ski mask. On one side of the glass Cowan sucks his thumb while simultaneously on the other side of the glass he drags on a cigarette. Which one are we drawn to? The one we are all taught to fear or the one ruminating over the honest comfort he finds in his thumb. No matter how many times the smoke is blown or the thumb is sucked we still have the comfort of a pane of glass to protect us from the intimidation we place on ourselves and the urge to curl up in a fetal position.
