Kelly
Pike
Illiamnate
April

"Illiamnate" is an
installation by Houston artist Kelly Pike, who grew up in the
shadows of the volcanic Mount Illiamna in Alaska, and on a street
named, appropriately enough, Illiamna Avenue.
From the hazily remembered imagery of her blustery childhood in
Alaska, Pike creates an installation that's one part snow globe and
one part avalanche; one part Candy Land and one part Monopoly; one
part frustrated interior designer and one part ravenous landscaper.
Ultimately, both a thief and a conservator of intimate references,
the piece becomes one part fiction and one part "non".
