The paintings of Houston artist Thomas Walsh are an exploration of frozen moments in time. Using shapes abstracted entirely from images of subjects in motion, Walsh creates the illusion of forms in a void, while maintaining an undeniably flat painted surface. Although the source of the imagery is utterly lost in the process of abstraction, the images contain a tension, like energy in flux between the potential and the kinetic.

Thomas Walsh received his MFA from the University of Texas, San Antonio in 2000, and his BFA from the University of Houston in 1997. Slice of Life is Walsh’s first solo exhibition in San Antonio since his three-year hermitage in his studio in Houston.
